The Component Information Portal (CIP) is the engine that drives the Cadence® OrCAD® Capture CIS with Digi-Key® integration. It enables non-OrCAD Capture CIS users to have access to the parts database behind OrCAD Capture CIS without using the native software. Users external to engineering, like documentation and purchasing departments, can use CIP to view and modify data within the corporate CIS database. CIP is a fully web-based solution that can be deployed enterprise wide. With EMA enterprise integration, the CIS database will hold data from external systems like Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and Product Lifecycle Management (PLM).

Begin the part introduction process by using OrCAD Capture CIS to introduce temporary parts into your CIS database. Take it a step further by using CIP to update the data, assign approved part numbers, and run detailed reports on pending approvals. The user friendly web-based interface provides administrative departments easy access to the component information stored in the CIS database, accelerating the part approval process through enhanced editing functionality.
For any electronic component database to be effective, it needs a lot of parametric content. Populating hundreds of fields of parametric information for electronic components using a manual process is expensive, tedious, and error prone. CIP provides users with a fixed starter database, containing 200 parts with symbols and footprints, as a foundation for the successful implementation of CIS. The Digi-Key integration allows OrCAD Capture CIS users to build onto this database with fully downloadable component content for over 1,000,000 orderable parts. Part data is copied directly into the database with the push of a button.
The EMA Component Information Portal is available in two versions: CIP and CIP Enterprise. The standard version of CIP is delivered to customers as a single user license. It comes with a simplified MS Access database formatted with generic fields to store all component data. CIP Enterprise supports multiple users with different access rights, allowing organizations to implement a part approval process and adding a level of protection to help maintain the integrity of the corporate CIS database. The CIP Enterprise version is enhanced with a SQL Server database that allows engineering teams to store component information in a multi-table structure specific to device type.
- No need to manually collect part data. Part number, description, parametric information, RoHS compliance, even a part image, are all displayed and downloaded into the CIS database
- Engineers can search and select Digi-Key parametric data within OrCAD Capture CIS
- Generate a complete BOM for ordering parts without manually copying from web pages
- Purchasing, librarians and other non-EE individuals can easily access, approve, and modify parts within the CIS database through a user friendly web based interface
- Administer database privileges based on administrative responsibilities
- Perform complex queries and export results directly into spreadsheet format
- Design with confidence knowing that part information and BOMs are based on current part availability and correct part numbers
- Remote database accessibility
