With its comprehensive schematic design and management environment, including built-in component information management capabilities, OrCAD Capture CIS streamlines the front-end design process by reducing the amount of time needed to research and manually enter parts data.

The OrCAD Capture CIS Option is available for use with all the Cadence OrCAD PCB design technology suites, as well as stand-alone OrCAD Capture.

Power IC Model Library

The Power IC Model Library™ for Cadence® PSpice® A/D incorporates over 200 time-domain simulation models for power electronic designs. The library enables designers to perform high-speed, cycle-by-cycle simulations to show true large-signal performance, simulate current-mode control using the latest accurate modeling techniques, run CCM and DCM converter simulations, generate line and load step responses, and measure power stage loss and stress analysis for all major components.

The models in the Power IC Model Library are compared and verified with bench data under startup, steady state, line, and load transient conditions. Nonlinear characteristics such as propagation delay, switching speed, drive capability, maximum duty cycle/current limits, and startup phenomena are all accurately modeled. Designers can directly compare the performance of components from various vendors and analyze the effects of different implementations such as peak current mode control, hysteric current control, low voltage, and low operating current, to name just a few.

Component Information Portal (CIP)

The Component Information Portal™ (CIP) offers Cadence® OrCAD® Capture CIS users a comprehensive, ‘off-the-shelf’ CIS management environment that includes a component library with a pre-defined set of fields to help take the guesswork out of defining a database schema. A web-based interface enables non-OrCAD Capture CIS users, like those in documentation and purchasing, to have access to the parts database behind OrCAD Capture CIS without using native software. CIP provides users with a distributor interface that allows Future Electronics, Premier Farnell®, Newark®, and Digi-Key® parts data to be downloaded directly into their CIS database.

CIP supports multiple users with different access rights, allowing organizations to implement a part approval process and adding a level of protection to help maintain the integrity of the corporate CIS database. CIP is enhanced with a Microsoft SQL Server® database that allows engineering teams to store component information in a multi-table structure specific to device type.
