Home > EMA Academy > Courses > Introduction to PCB Design

What You Will Learn

  • Basics of the PCB design
  • How to design a schematic
  • How to design a PCB layout
  • How the PCB manufacturing process will affect the layout
  • Best practices to efficiently convey design intent
  • How to produce a PCB right the first time

Course Summary

This comprehensive course consists of the following four sections to help you learn the PCB design process:

  1. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to PCB Design: This entertaining and educational industry overview will give you the understanding of how all the processes in designing a PCB will come together to create a successful board.
  2. ECAD Software Walk-through: In order to efficiently design a PCB, a fundamental knowledge of the design software is required. This walk-through will teach you how to use OrCAD Capture and OrCAD PCB Designer in order to follow along with the remainder of the course. Get a free trial of OrCAD here to follow along.
  3. Reproducing the Barebones Arduino Design: This section utilizes the skills and knowledge learned through The Hitchhiker’s Guide to PCB Design and the ECAD Software Walk-through to reproduce a popular open-source design.
  4. Incorporating DFM into the Arduino Uno Design: This section of the course expands upon the basic PCB design process and teaches Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles by guiding you through their implementation within the Arduino Uno circuit board.
