Our most recent webinar, Constraint-driven design with OrCAD Capture, provided attendees with an overview of Constraint Manager for OrCAD. It is a new option available directly within the OrCAD Capture interface and can help define and embed constraints at the beginning of the design process—ensuring they will be communicated clearly. In addition to the overview on constraint-driven design, Janine Flagg, one of our senior field applications engineers, provided an in-depth demo on the product and answered any questions attendees may have had.

The inclusion differential pairs within a design introduces a wide variety of concerns engineers need to be mindful of if they want them to be reliable. Differential pairs are prone to problems if routing requirements and other guidelines are not followed, therefore it is imperative they are done correctly and design rules are always defined and adhered to. To help you as you navigate these rules and help provide some clarity on the topic, we have created an infographic: The Anatomy of a Differential Pair.

In such an innovative and technology-driven industry, why are you still defining and communicating constraints outside of your CAD environment? With Constraint Manager for OrCAD you can define and embed constraints initially and know that they will be communicated clearly throughout the design cycle.

With everything from your cell phone to your teddy bear converting over to wireless, RF interference is a growing concern. Even if you aren’t transmitting, you may have RF sensitive circuits you need to protect—almost every wire becomes an antenna or receiver and the signals they can receive or transmit can degrade overall performance. This is true for all products, no matter how small or minor they might be.

This week’s Working with OrCAD video, Copper, discusses and the many features Cadence provides designers when dealing with copper shapes in addition to a few design best practices. It covers how to add various types of solid copper elements, sectioning plane layers, etc. It also reviews the different ways copper can be added to a layer (dynamic, solid copper, or crosshatch) and the merging of copper shapes.

This week’s Working with OrCAD video, Constraint Manager 2, discusses how the constraint manager within OrCAD products constitutes the central focus point. This allows the designer to control the physicality of their design, making it the heart and soul of Cadence design products. In this video, you will learn how to leverage the constraint manager to create error-free designs, the four types of constraint sets, and net grouping within the system.

PCB Clustering for OrCAD provides the tools necessary for you to place components quicker, inevitably speeding up the design process by automating tasks that have traditionally been done manually. In a previous post PCB Clustering for OrCAD: AutoClustering™ we discussed the benefits of grouping components to provide initial placement of component groups into functional blocks – but this is only one of many capabilities PCB Clustering for OrCAD offers.
